Gay marriage

...is being discussed again in Portugal. I support gay marriage, as I view it as a process of recognising some gay rights by the state, (e.g. legal issues related to bequests).

I also think that this is one of those matters that should be subject to a referendum.

Of course, in Portugal, gay marriage would never pass in a referendum, but that is another issue...

You say it would never pass, is that because Portugal is so Catholic? Or some other reason, simple bigotry or fear, maybe?

Yes, Portugal is so Catholic that I think the proposal would never pass a referendum
